Volkswagen Golf

Make / model: Volkswagen Golf W12-650
Price: N/A
BHP: 650
0-62mph: 4.3
Top Speed: 202mph

Surely a Volkswagen Golf can’t be faster than a Ferrari F40? It can. The W12-650 was a concept designed in just six weeks for a German car show. It didn’t handle too well, but who cares? It’s a 202mph Golf.

Runner-up: Lamborghini Gallardo Coupe

The Lamborghini Gallardo is a stunning-looking car and handles far better than the Golf W12-650. But it’s the runner-up purely because the crazy Veedub is a one-of-a-kind.

Make / model: Honda NSX Type-R
Price: N/A
BHP: 280
0-62mph: 4.4 seconds
Top speed: 168mph

A car developed by Formula One legend Ayrton Senna was always going to be a beauty. The Honda NSX Type-R was never officially sold in the UK, but you’ll still find them on Britain’s roads, thanks to their dynamic looks and brilliant handling.

Runner-up: Hummer H1

It’s one of the ugliest cars on the road, drinks more than an 18th Century sailor and isn’t particularly fast. But there’s something about the Hummer H1 which brings out the excited child in us.

High-Tech Concept Cars

Fifty years ago, General Motors called its high-tech concept cars "Dream Cars." Most of them, like a turbine-powered car that looked like a jet airplane, remained just that—a dream. Today's high-tech dream cars are rooted in much more practical concerns, especially fuel efficiency and weight savings, which were not on the pop-culture radar in the 1950s. Today's concept cars are much closer to making dreams like fuel cells, which generate electricity from hydrogen and emit only water vapor, come true

1969 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

While this might be a fairly common car compared to most of the vehicles on my list that still doesn't detract from how great of a car I consider this to be. Plus, since I have a deep love for American muscle cars more than anything it should go without saying that even a regular car could and would be on my list. The Corvettes have definitely left behind a big legacy and still continue to do so, but none that have surfaced can top the Stringray from the 60's in my books. One stylistic change that I wasn't too fond of with the more recent Corvettes (well, compared to the older models) is how they had a fairly straight, bland design to them (though the new ZO6's aren't half bad), which is odd because one thing that I love about the Stingray is how it's got this curvy body that, combined with its muscle car attributes makes it a looker to compliment the loud monster waiting to be kicking into gear.

2002 Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR

I have to be honest and frank, I'm really not a fan of Mercedes (Benz) cars or any other luxury car; I just find them to be expensive, bloated wastes of metal that are supposed to be coveted vehicles but they wind up looking like little more than a casual car with a "hey, I've got so and so minor tweaks, therefore I'm worth more than your life" kind of appeal to it. However, if there's one car that Mercedes really took me by surprise with, it was the CLK GTR, which I first saw in my playthroughs of Hot Pursuit 2 when it came out. While the CLK GTR does have some of the cliche design aspects of other Mercedes cars it has this whole other, almost outlandish look to it that's just striking and fitting for the power this creature holds. Sleek and eye-catching, the CLK GTR assures it looks as fast as it is.

Toyota AB Flug Supra S900

While the standard Toyota Supras have become fairly coveted vehicles on their own, I've been partial to this bigger, bulkier and meaner form of the Supra. Those who've played Midnight Club 2 to death such as myself would note the Saikou XS as the AB Flug Supra with some adjustments. What I love about this particular Supra is that it takes the tuner ****of the regular Supras and basically "Hulk-itizes" it, making it almost like the "Bully Supra" as I'd call it.

New Car Review 2006

Well, as it’s Friday and the end of the traditional working week, we thought it would be fun to do an update on the cars that you really, really want, but most of us can’t possibly afford. Still, if you’ve not got a bank balance to match David Beckham’s there’s always the £125 million Euromillions lottery rollover next week….. Audi R8 When can I expect it? : December How much is it going to cost me?:TBC

• Compare free no-obligation quotes What’s being said about it?: It’s official - the new Audi sports car will be called the Audi R8. Presented two years ago as the ’Le Mans quattro’ concept study at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show, Audi has now taken the decision to build its new sports car. All is being prepared for the series production at the Audi plant in Neckarsulm which is due to start in the final quarter of 2006. There is an awful lot at stake with 28 million euros being invested in this production line. Development and test construction are already underway and there are around 250 employees working on the production of the R8. “Through the R8 we are looking to build on our successes in motorsport and carry them over to series production. This model represents Audi’s very own interpretation of sportiness,” says Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of AUDI AG, about the new member of the Audi model range. The Audi A2, A6 and A8 were all developed at the Aluminium Centre in Neckarsulm and the R8 will be relying on an intelligent, lightweight design which is the core area of expertise at the plant. The Audi R8 is expected to do 0-60mph in under 5 seconds, reaching a top speed of over 180mph. There is a strong possibility that the Audi RS4’s three-litre V6 FSI unit will be an option to create an entry model. Good news is that if you fancy one, there’s plenty of time to dig out your chequebook - the market launch is expected sometime around late 2006/early 2007.
